Simple Adventure Equipment Provides A Mindful Journey

By: Tom Malone

I woke up in my tent as the sun began to rise. It peaked through the thin Rocky Mountain trees. I threw on my Columbia Sportswear vest, grabbed my Tenkara USA fly rod, and my ICONIC protein drink and headed through the forest to the lake.

The lake was serene; no one in the forest seemed to be awake yet. I pulled my canoe from the tall grass, where I had hidden it the night before. I pushed it through the coarse sand and into the water. Ripples jetted through the glass-like water surface.

As I paddled into the shallow water, hunger gripped me. I opened my shake (Chocolate Truffle flavor) and gulped it down. My hunger subsided. My energy spiked.

I proceeded to fish until the sun rose fully; by that time, the temperature had risen with it. I no longer needed the warm, fleece vest.

As I flicked my Tenakra rod back and forth, I embraced the sunrise and the stillness that nature provided. Though I caught no fish that morning, the ease that my equipment brought to the morning allowed me to adventure through the peaceful environment and practice mindful adventure.
