May Adventure: Cannes Film Festival

Each May, the town of Cannes in the south of France hosts its world-renowned film festival that attracts both the biggest stars in cinema and those who dream of receiving critical acclaim for their artistic film talents. As a traveler, you have the benefit of experiencing all of this without the added pressure of being a celebrity yourself.

The Cannes Film Festival has the capacity to catapult an unknown independent film into the stratosphere of stardom. And it's completely open to explore, as is the picturesque Mediterranean coastline that the town borders.

"One of the leading film festivals around the world, it was originally a touristic social event rather than a competition," according to The Huffington Post. "However over the years the number and quality of films has grown to make it one of the most prestigious events in the film industry calendar."

The festival always runs for a week or more in the middle of May. This year, the events begin on May 17 and end on May 28.

Visit the Cannes Film Festival site to secure special event tickets, and be sure to book your hostels or hotels as soon as you Cannes (sorry, we couldn't resist).
